a staggering amount of your life
will be spent alone
you will be on your own
surrounded by people
that you don’t know
out of your comfort zone -
because it can be frightening
to be alone
so many hundreds
and thousands
and millions of years
philosophers have spent trying
to make sense of the world
to love the world
and our own seemingly
insignificant existence
for so long we have gazed up
at the stars and given them names
we have been mesmerised
by looking into eyes
yes we fell in love again
how much we have grown and
how much we have learned
how much we still have to learn
but still - there is this fear
we don’t know how to be alone
we don’t know how to treat ourselves
how to look inwards and be gentle
with the galaxies we see
the galaxies existing inside of us
how to caress the constellations on our skins
and all the rivers that flow beneath
we must welcome and embrace these solitary moments
close our eyes and open our minds
to the spiritual and the divine miracle
that is our individuality - and our similarity
