Little girl with the red bow in her hair
She stares at the ground and ignores my stare
When she blinks her eyes there’s a change in the air
The little girl stands alone and she doesn’t care.
Little boy with dried dirt on his cheek
When you talk to him, he doesn’t speak
His heart is strong, but they all call him weak
The little boy will not let his eyes leak.
She sits on the third step of the staircase
He came 4th place in the school’s track race
She skipped lunch for want of a smaller waist
He is ashamed to show his father his face.
Oh, look up little girl and wipe away that frown
Stand up my little boy and stop looking down
I know that life is really not easy in this town
Yet you’ll grow up soon and make ‘em all proud
She stares at the ground and ignores my stare
When she blinks her eyes there’s a change in the air
The little girl stands alone and she doesn’t care.
